Love this seat! We have twins on the way, and really went back and forth about the baby-bucket style infant seats. With so much expense, we hesitated to buy something that would not last very long, especially two of them. (my taller-than-most nephew outgrew his carrier seat in 3 months!) The First Years True fit is really great, and fits perfectly in both our cars, which is something the infant carrier with base did not do. We loved it so much we ended up buying two more for the second car. It’s nice to know we can spend the money once and have a seat that could last for several years.
These seats are super easy to install with the built-in lockoffs, which is nice since both our cars are older than the LATCH system. And the removable headrest comes in handy to get the correct 45 degree rear-facing angle. Other comparable seats don’t have the headrest removal option and we would have run into the same space issue with those we had with the carriers, which is they simply would not fit rear facing. After we installed the True Fits, we had them inspected with the local police dept. to ensure they are safely installed, and the technicians even commented on how much tighter a fit than a lot of seats, and how padding there is, which is great in the event of a crash, the sides will cushion their little heads in the event of side-impact. The carrier seats were pretty sparse in that area. Ultimately we decided this is a much better investment over time, the seats are the Lazy-Boy of car seats, and they are in the cars to stay. We will endure parenthood without the carrier seats, and we’re happier for it. Plus, I think the babies will be more comfortable for longer in these seats.
The downside is this seats are big. With two of them in the back seat of a Subaru Forester and a Honda Civic, there is no room for additional passengers, but for now the two little ones are our main concern. Maybe sometime later we will be forced to get bigger cars, but for now, these fit fine and we’re confident our kids have seats they can grow with, which will be versatile and keep them safe for years to come.
