I was suspect of the need for “ceramic ions” and “far infrared technology”, but this iron was highly recommended by salon personnel, so I decided to dish out the money and try it. You don’t need to believe the hype to realize that this is a top quality product. This was a case of “you get what you pay for”! It is lightweight and ergonomic, heats up almost immediately, has a slider bar for varying heat from 176-356F (80-180C), and velvety felt that protects you from burns (also allows me to get closer to my ears and scalp without getting burned). The latter feature is worth the money to me alone, and the the ceramic feels much gentler to my hair (I have baby fine hair very prone to breakage). Two other things to keep in mind when choosing a straightener:
1) size matters – smaller size is better – it’s more maneuverable, and doing smaller sections at a time will produce better results. for superfine hair, I recommend the 0.7″ (mistakenly advertised as 0.07″)
2) not all ceramic is created equal – there are solid ceramic plates or plates COATED with ceramic that are cheaper. the ceramic layer on the coated plates can peel off and is supposedly damaging to your hair (not to mention your product is ruined).
so yes, this iron is more expensive, but hopefully it will last for years of top-notch straightening.

After reading numerous online raves about the CHI Flat Iron I ordered a CHI Turbo Flat Iron. I have no complaints with the product as of yet, I’ve only had it a few days.

***BUT*** the few complaints I read online dealt with customer service from Farouk the manufacturer of CHI products and warranty problems. Before buying the product, I went to the Farouk website and noted that they had a 1-year warranty, no problem so I thought. I went back to the site today with a nagging thought, why would people who had spent so much money on a hair iron have problems with customer service? Upon reading the fine print I found out. The following was copied and pasted from the Farouk website:

ATTENTION INTERNET SHOPPERS: Any product manufactured by Farouk Systems, Inc. will lose its warranty if purchased from an internet distributor of any sort. Farouk Systems can not guarantee the quality of the products that are sold over the internet. Besides that, It is against company policy for internet distributors to sell our products. Any CHI appliance or Top Blade products are only under warranty if purchased from a Professional Salon.

BOTTOM LINE: If this product is ordered online by comparison shopping you can potentially save a lot of money but you will NOT have a manufacturer’s warranty. The manufacturer’s warranty is only valid if you buy through a professional salon.

CHI manufactures this 2″ size, and 1″ and 0.7″ widths in the same line also. My first inclination was to buy the 2″ size – that would make the process faster, right? Well, I was advised and found out to be true that bigger is not better in this situation, for reasons stated below. So while I highly recommend the CHI Turbo straightener, I would recommend the smaller widths unless you know for a fact that you prefer the larger plates. The following section is my review for the 0.7″ (which is mistakenly advertised as 0.07″), which I think is helpful even if you decide on the 2″ model, so forgive my copy-and-paste.

This product works very well for protecting the hair against heat styling products like blow dryers, curling irons and hotrollers. If you are using a flat iron it would be better to use the STRAIGHT GAURD and Silk Infusion for total heat protection! Some products out there say they protect but only give a buffer for lower heat settings. The CHI line was specifically made for HIGH HEAT settings of the flat iron.

Great product, really protects your hair, and is actually easier to iron your hair with it on. Spray from far though so that it doesn’t make your hair hard! I used to have to blow-dry my hair and then iron it but now I wash it put it in a braid until it dries and then I spray my hair with this and iron it, leaves my hair very soft! My hair was breaking and I was ironing it before without protecting it until my hair stylist told me I had to at least use a protector so i tried this spray and it has really made a difference!

My husband recently bought me the Chi Bling iron for Christmas and this spray came with it free. It is a nice light product to use and it doesn’t seem to weigh my hair down like some of the cheaper drugstore products do. It is definitely worth the money. You get what you pay for.

I just bought a chi.. this chi to be exact. It’s the goddess of all flat irons. I had a cheap Wal Mart hair iron. I used to have to wash my hair, take it into section, blow dry w/ a round brush THEN go over every piece of hair w/ my cra**y flat iron, again and again. And when I went outside, if it was rainy or humid, forget it, my hair would fuzz out all over again. I don’t have curly curly hair more like really thick, frizzy, wavy sorta curly but not hair. Totally NOT cute. With the chi, my hair is super soft and looks like I was born with perfectly straight beautiful shiny hair. HA! Now I shower, towel dry and take the chii to it. It takes about 15 min. STAYS ALL DAY LONG and feels really great. I don’t even need to use any anti frizz serum or anything like that. It is a bit pricey but worth every penny.

I got it and couldn’t wait to use it, so the first time I used it my hair looks great. People at work notice the difference. They thought I went to the Beauty Salon. There is a world of difference between a cheap one and THE CHI. Ok, so for the “no warranty issue”, Amazon sells it for $94.00, other places sell it for $135.00. If you have a problem with it you can mail it along with $35.00 and they will fix or replace (per the website), so I took the risk, and anyway, the warranty is only for a year, so after that you have to pay the extra $35.00 if it breaks. Mine works great.

I had never considered a flat iron before. I have short hair, and I thought a flat iron was for straightening. But my new stylist showed me how to use it to create height and soft curl, and I just love it. Very easy to use, tho I burned my thumb and finger the first time I tried it.
