Sony HTSS360 5.1 channel Home Theater System (Black) Reviews
Good Sound
If you like sound, you will like this stereo system! Combined with my 60″ plasma, it feels like I am watching movies in the theater…literally. I’m sure at least half of the experience comes from this awesome sound system.
The pro’s and con’s have already been discussed to some extent below, so I will just comment on those.
1) At first I thought the bass level might be too high, like others have suggested. After watching movies, playing video games, and playing music for a while though, it actually seems like it is at a decent level — and outputting like it should, especially for those movie theater-like explosions!
2) There have been many comments suggesting that this system is not good for listening to music. I say that’s incorrect. Maybe I have never heard a super hi-quality system, but I know this sounds at least (better in my opinion) as good as any hq car stereo system. I have blasted everything from pink floyd to today’s rap-crap, and it sounds way awesome to me!
3) Unfortunately, sony does use their proprietary sound connectors, but I doubt this is an issue for anyone that has ever touched a soldering iron; also, the speakers that came with the system seem to do their job just fine.
Altogether, a great purchase at a great price!
A Powerful Home Theater Setup For The Price
I wish I could say I had done a lot of research on HD-Ready Home Theater sound systems when I purchased this unit to go with my new HDTV setup. But when I saw “Sony”, “5.1 surround” and “4 HDMI ports” for such a great price, I decided I couldn’t really go too far wrong.
I was in for a surprised. I was very much blown away by how nice a sound system came for such a reasonable price. Within minutes I had my HDTV, Blu-Ray player and DirecTV Satellite DVR all patched in and was awash in very crisp, clean glorious surround sound.
The receiver unit looks very unassuming and simple, but it packs a nice little punch. The proprietary connectors from the speakers themselves may be offputting to those looking to customize their setup with swapped out speakers, but for out-of-the-box users, it’s a very convenient feature.
The subwoofer does a great job of delivering the bass and low-end sound without being overpowering, and the front and rear satellite speakers are very robust for such small units.
There may come a point when I may decide to upgrade to something approaching the high-end range of home theater systems, but I am more than thrilled with this system and couldn’t recommend it enough to anyone looking to compliment a new HDTV setup where HDMI will be your main method of connection.
