Philips HF3480 Wake-up Light Reviews
I have to admit: I love this new clock. I was tired of the “BEEP! BEEP!” alarm clock I had that shocked me out of my slumber each morning. I’d jump out of bed, groggy and half-asleep, and wander around until my brain caught up. Not the optimal way to wake up.
When you set your alarm, let’s say for 6am, the light starts to slowly brighten 30 minutes before you want to get up (5:30am for this example). 8 times out of 10, I’m awake before the time I want to get up… between 5:40am and 5:50am. The other 2 times out of 10, the soft chimes wake me up. You can pick between multiple sounds – and I chose the chimes because they remind me of the chimes my parents had when I was growing up. They’re very soft – and it’s still a soothing way to wake up. In fact, in some instances, even if I wake up before the chimes are supposed to go off, I’ll just lay in bed and wait for them to go off.
What’s weird is I now wake up without sound. It’s a little different going from being jolted out of bed by a loud noise, to just naturally waking up because of the light. However, it’s much more peaceful – and I’m able to get up and going, without feeling groggy. I’ve been more energized in the mornings – and my days get started with a lot less stress.
If you’re someone who hates the “BEEP! BEEP!” like I do, I highly recommend this clock. I’m happy with the quality and it does exactly what it says it does. Yes, setting the clock initially and the alarm is a little confusing at first. Mainly because I rarely read instruction booklets and prefer to just charge in, figuring “I know how to set an alarm clock”. However, with a few glances at parts of the instruction booklet, it was easy to set. Now, every night before bed, I just set the alarm to on, and it’s good to go. When I get up, I just click it to off and the light goes off.
It’s a bit more expensive than most alarm clocks, but I’ve only been using it for about a week now, and the quality of my mornings this week have made it worth the purchase.
With old alarm clocks I would be jolted awake, in shock from the loud, fast and blaring beeps, and it would literally make my chest hurt. This lovely product starts off very quietly, getting slightly louder every 5 or so seconds until it reaches the volume you choose. My husband and I like the wind chimes. I don’t really use the light in the morning, which you can pick whether you want to use it or not, as the window in front of me lets in enough light. I can imagine someone who wakes up before dawn could utilize this with great results. On days I need to get up really early I look forward to using the light option. One thing I wish was different was when you use this to go to sleep, I wish the light would gradually dim every couple minutes or so, but instead it stays at the brightness you set it at and shuts off after the 15, 30, 45 minutes you picked. Also, I wish this had a “thunderstorm” or “waterfall” sound to pick from. I like how you can use the radio as an alarm as well. Overall, I’m happy with this product and I won’t be going back to the old alarms.
