Story
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary “Roach” Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, “Soap” MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

Gameplay
The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including “Soap” MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game’s heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them.

Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of “Free-for All,” the classic team-based fun of “Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of “Search and Destroy,” just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the “Perk” System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through “kill streaks,” the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing “death streaks,” multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches.

Special Ops Co-op Mode
Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. The newly released Scene It? Twilight Deluxe Edition DVD game came out on October 1st, and here’s a review from a Twilight fan for Twilight fans.

First of all, if you’re unfamiliar with the Scene It? game series, you should get familiar because they’re incredibly fun.

The games combine the traditional realm of board games with DVD play in a way that isn’t too confusing or distracting but is, instead, modern and interactive.

The Twilight version of Scene It? is catered to the 2008 film, and it incorporates clips and subtleties contained in the film – be it dialogue, scenery, or other various detail.

The game contains several of such particularized elements. For instance, the playing pieces are the shape of things like a baseball and Charlie’s house. Also, the questions are orchestrated to be befitting of the most ardent and taxingly knowledgeable of Twilight fans. For instance, one question card (of hundreds) contains the following three questions (see if you can answer the questions without looking them up).

• Where does Edward say he was when the van almost hit Bella?
• What kind of sandwich does Bella have in the cafe with Charlie?
• What is the name of Bella’s stepfather?

Okay, so not impossible questions necessarily but certainly fun.

As for the DVD game features, there is quite a variety (that would take hours upon end to discover the full extent of). As a sample preview, some screenshots of the game at play are included in the slideshow below. The DVD questions, too, are narrated by the one and only Peter Facinelli (Dr. Cullen in the film series).

Other aspects of gameplay run similar to the more traditional versions of Scene It? (like Scene It? The DVD Game) in that the object is substantially similar and the methods of winning and movement are the same. For those less familiar with the Scene It? series, the gist of the game is to make it to the end of the board (which happens to actually be the middle of the board) and to answer the final trivia question (or set of trivia questions, dependant on how savvy and versed you happen to be on the film’s subtleties) to win.

The best part of the game is the way it has transformed Twilight (the film) while still retaining the mystical and romantic elements. You’ll notice, when playing, that some of the very small – but ultra relevant to fans – portions of the game are brought to a whole new light. For instance, one question (or challenge, rather) that the DVD portion of the game offers is a “keep your eye on the ball” challenge – a play, you might’ve guessed, on the baseball scene. Accompanying the challenge is the music that accompanied the baseball scene in the film. Thusly, the feel and magic of the film scene is transcendant into the game itself.

The Twilight Scene It? game is also very fun to play between Twilight fans who claim to have the one-up on one another in the way of trivia knowledge. There’s always something to be learned, and this game certainly raises that awareness.

The best part of the game is the absolute wealth of available questions and challenges. You might think that a two hour movie would yield limited possibilities, but the people at Scene It? definitely took the film to all new heights in putting together this game. As said, it’d probably take many, many hours to get through the thousands of questions and challenges in the game – both in the DVD form and the card question form.

As a final comment on the game, the challenges offered in it are not pandering or overly simplified. It is clear that the creators were aware, in making the game, that players would be the most acclaimed afficionados of the series. That said, it is fun for Twilight experts as well as first-time Twilight fans!

Well worth the purchase

I bought this game to play with my girlfriends and family that are fans of twilight. We really enjoyed playing. I was used to playing the friends scene it edition, so we compared it to that game. I will say that the game board seeemed a little small, so we dedided to go around twice to make the game last longer. Also it would have been nice to have more game tokens…there were only four, so with 12 of us playing we split into teams. It only covers Twilight and not the rest of the stories, so no worrries if you haven’t finished yet. Most of the trivia pertains to the movie, not the book…but we all had a lot of fun. There was no timer for the trivia cards, the friends edition did so we had to time oursleves, but most of us are die hard fans so it wasn’t that much of an issue. I also enjoyed that there were other options on there to play the game differently. When the game was over we decided to just play shuffle play and see who could shout out the answer first.

Gameplay
Although gameplay in Among Thieves is similar to that of the previous game, there are several major differences. The most important of these is the addition of several online multiplayer options. Unfortunately, no offline multiplayer could be included in the game due to the impact local split-screening has on the game’s graphical quality. Wii is wonderful There isn’t much one can say about a console as it only seems to sit there and play the games. It works. The seller was extremely responsive when I questioned him about a part I thought was missing (stand) and he sent one immediately. Nintendo Wii My whole life I was and still am a fan of computer games. For that reason all consoles are pretty uncomfortable for me as I am not used to controllers at all. I got Wii as a present couple of moths ago and absolutely loved it. First of all it has a great price, second of all it has the most innovation on market. I absolutely love the controls and the ease of play. I do not have many games, but it’s a lot of fun. My favorite game so far is Resident Evil 4. I love how you can customize your characters and free internet browser is very neat as well. Wireless internet connection is very helpful, no need for any kind of extra adapters. Nintendo really takes care of their stuff, it is not overpriced and you don’t have to buy whole bunch of other things in order to experience the Console, unlike Sony and Microsoft. Graphics, of course is not as good as Xbox 360 or PS3, but I rather take the game experience and innovation over graphics. Newer games have very god graphics anyway. Things to note about this product:

-If you are looking at this in Aug. 08 then note that this is NOT the Jasper console, these consoles are the newer bundles they created to clear inventory of Falcon boards while they work on inventory of Jaspers (The Jaspers were to be produced in August and that is what they are doing right now. Producing, not releasing for retail sale -yet-) When the stores sell out of ALL Falcon units they will start putting Jasper units on the shelves. Two tips for spotting a Jasper: 1. Check the wattage information, it should be below 175w. 2. Check the manufacture date. Jaspers should be manufactured during August 2008 or later. (I’m pretty sure I have this in another spot in my post but I’ll put it at the top also, for easier access.

-This console will be reduced in price once again in early September. The new price-tag on these Pro bundles will be $299.99 (Edit: Next information may now give issues, as Amazon has done a bait and swap with their policy and removed their 30-day protection as of the 31st of August. -The September consoles are when ‘technically’ the new Jaspers should start rolling off the assembly line and into stores. HOWEVER there is a technicality with this. They may have them in the stores warehouses, but won’t put them on the shelves til all of that store’s FALCON units have been sold. This includes all the falcon units from that store’s warehouses. All Falcon units must go first before they start selling Jaspers. Keep an eye on the wattage information to confirm your Jasper units. As the new GPU should reduce the PSU wattage requirements. (currently they all use 175w) Also, look at the manufacture dates. Any console that was manufactured from mid to late Aug. 2008 and on should be Japsers. As you know, they said they would manufacture the Jaspers in August, so that is the manufacture starting points you want to look for.

If after trying to get your money from Amazon you still don’t meet with results, what you can do is return the 360 if you are still within the return period and get another 360 now that the price has gone down. Amazon provides free return shipping on some products so you may not have to pay for that. You wait for your refund, get a new 360 at 50 dollars cheaper and the shipping a 2nd time should still be free since all products over x dollar amount qualify for free super-saver shipping. Just don’t TELL them that is why you are returning it. Say the unit scratches up your disks or something since that is a common problem with some of these older units.

Product review (obligatory since someone pointed it out in comments): Solid system, great graphics, has been known to give RROD issues but should be fixed with Jaspers so will lead to an even more solid system. Tons of fun, great games. The list goes on.

Wii Wand Reviews

After using the Nyko Wand for 8 days, I have to say that I am very happy with it. I was a little hesitant to buy a Wiimote not from Nintendo, but I have Nyko’s charge station and that has performed very well so I decided to give their Wand a chance, especially since Nyko has a new nunchuck (the Kama) coming out that vibrates when used with the Wand. Overall the Wand has performed exactly the same as Nintendo’s. I also like that the Wand has a rubberized grip and trigger which gives me more feel. Plus the buttons are bigger than Nintendo’s, so when I’m playing the new Punch Out, which I play with the remote held horizontally, it’s alot easier to play. I highly recommend this Wiimote alternative, and I’m already considering pre-ordering Nyko’s Core Pak to get the nunchuck with vibration.

The red button kind of threw me off at first, as I am not exactly the biggest fan of M&M’s on my controllers, but once I saw this controller in person, it actually kind of grew on me even if it does stick out when compared to my other Wii Remotes…but in a good way! What really made me decide to buy it was that I could save 5 bucks, and be able to use the special accessories like the gun attachment. The performance has been on par with the 1st party controllers I have, and once the other enhanced accessories come out (vibrating nunchuck anyone?), I’ll prolly be using this for most all of my games on the wii! So I saved some money, have a unique looking remote and the ability to buy specialized accessories…WIN!

Obviously the Wii has been lackin in good 1st person shooter, and the ps3 and 360 have had WAY too many. High Voltage jumped on this, and im so happy they did. The most recent shooter I’ve been playing, Killzone 2, absolutely blew me away graphically, hell of a story, but the controls kinda bugged me.
The Conduit, while not being as graphically impressive or having as deep of a story, has got me goin on a couple different levels:

1. The Graphics- Like I said, they aren’t Killzone quality (what is..) or Halo quality, but honestly, they are DAMMN good for Wii. It is by far the most polished game presentation I have seen on the Wii, people actually look like people and not moving paintings, good shadow effects, water looks like water, etc.
2. Story- The story is good, not great, not bad. Dont wanna spoil anything, and I honestly haven’t played the whole thing, but its your average aliens-attack-you-kill-them-save-the-world etc. It does have lots of unlockables, extra content that makes it fun to go back and try to get.
3. Controls- this games kills with controls! ANYTHING you want to change you are able to, ANY button can be changed, head bob, any sensitivity, it is absolutely awesome to have this level of control.
4. Mutiplayer- For a Wii game, its REALLY good, comparable with many of the better playstation and xbox online games, minus the occasional slow-down you get when playing in a full room.

Conclusion: Overall for [...] dollars this is a no-brainer. The Wii is absolutely a blast to play shooting games on, and having one that actually looks good and comes with impressive mutiplayer is a done-deal. Im absolutely positive this will go down as one of, if not the all-time best Wii shooter ever. Seriously.

The Conduit is a solid, long overdue FPS for the Wii. The controls really do make it a bit of a revolution in FPS gaming on consoles, and because of this, it’s a game that every gamer should have in his or her library.

The single player mode is decent. The story is your average FPS sci-fi/conspiracy fare, so don’t go into the game expecting great writing. That having been said, the voice acting is incredible. Mark Sheppard (Firefly, Battlestar Galactica), his father, William Morgan Sheppard, and Kevin Sorbo (Hercules, Andromeda) really bring their roles to life. The level design for the single player mode is good, but not great, and the enemies aren’t super original, but overall, it’s still quite fun.

We all know the main reason people play this genre is for the multiplayer and in that area especially The Conduit doesn’t disappoint. You will get many hours of entertainment beyond the short story thanks to this. If you’re a gamer who has become frustrated with the Wii’s online offerings, be sure to give this game a try. Virtually no lag and wii-speak support make this one of the few games on Wii to provide a solid online experience.

One of the unique things (for consoles anyway) that The Conduit brings to the table is the control system. Besides the obvious benefit of using the Wiimote to “point and shoot” (and yes, it works beautifully here), the controls are almost completely customizable, so if the default button mapping and sensitivity aren’t to your liking, you can easily change them in real time. After seeing how well this works, I think you’ll agree that EVERY console game should have this feature by now. (Yes, PC gamers, we know that such freedom is nothing new for you. )

In summation, this is a must-buy for any gamer, but especially for the core gamer who has been salivating for a strong FPS using Wii controls.

The game is very good. The online matches are excellent fun to play and very hectic. The single player mode is pretty good but I definitely recommend online. The graphics are good. If you want more great first person shooters on wii this is a must buy! If you want a better experience on wii this is a must buy! Buy it!
