In considering what 3D tv Samsung UN55C6300 (Samsung UN556300) TV to buy my parents, I had the apparent choice between buying an led LCD or a plasma. I opted to get the led, but you wouldn’t really be wrong to go the other route. My parents just wanted any TV that was bigger than 50 inches while I, being somewhat of a techy, needed to find the best TV over 50 inches. Well, here you have what I would call the third best TV over 50 inches (the 8500 and 8000 models being better) at the time of this review. This is the first of Samsung’s new line of lcds to come out this year, and it narrowly beats out last years 6 and 7 series TVs by offering a better contrast ratio (4,000,000-1 vs. 3,000,000-1) for virtually the same price point. Otherwise, it’s pretty much identical after reviewing the specs. Newer is better though in this case also because of the firmware upgrades and other fine improvements in engineering and technology.

The Samsung 55C6300 TV was delivered about 5 days after I purchased it through Amazon, and it took about 15 minutes to set up. Out of the box the thing looks incredible. It’s as thin as a blackberry! Some assembly was required with a phillips head and about 10 screws to attach the tv to the stand, but it was only 4 steps total and added to the suspense. After plugging in literally two cords (the hd component cables and the power cord) you are up and running. When the picture came on it was CRYSTAL clear. It puts every other TV I’ve seen to shame. You can go to Best Buy and do a side by side comparison and you won’t find anything better. Forget about the plasma, this is the way to go. I could describe in more detail how great the picture is, but suffice to say it’s flawless from movies to news to sports. Even if this is not your first HDTV, you will notice a big difference. I bought a 32″ 240 mhz set in Decemeber and this tv is in another league. The LED side panel illumination works well, and there is very little adjustment of the settings necessary to achieve true to life picture quality.

“True to life” will be understood in a new way when you buy this 3D TV. The longer it has been since your last TV purchase, the more breathtaking this advancement in technology will be. Regardless, this will be a TV that will have a useful life for years (longer than a plasma) and will always look amazing. That being said, I would get the warranty (2 years) for an extra 170 or so.

Note: I chose lcd over plasma because lcds are noiseless and don’t have the risk of picture burn-in. The 58′ plasma I was looking at is the same price. This TV is better than plasmas priced less at the time of the review. If price is the main concern, I might do an in store side by side comparison with cheaper plasmas to see if the difference to you is worth the money.

It plays most everything I’ve thrown at it in perfect color and very little pixelation. No warm up time like Standard LED TVs and much easier to watch. I highly recommend this TV. If you’re going to buy an LCD television…make sure it is backlit with LEDs. Samsungs out-perform all the other brands.

The picture on this Samsung LN46C630 TV was stunning right out of the box. After a few minor adjustments it was as close to perfect as I could imagine. It came with the SQ01 panel and it would be hard to differentiate the color depth and quality from some of the plasma sets I looked at. The TV is in a very bright room and the matte screen cuts out glare with no picture degradation. The viewing angle is very good, though we are never more than 25 to 30 degress off center. The LCD this replaced did not have a very good SD picture so I wasn’t expecting much difference with the Samsung. But it actually looks great, almost like HD. It also has separate settings for processing speed and anti-judder. I watch a lot of sports and barely noticed motion blur at 60hz and virtually none at 120hz. With this set I would see no need to spend more money for a 240hz option. The sound is basic but fine normal TV viewing. Its also internet ready with both USB and ethernet connections, though to do so via USB requires an adaptor that is not included. There is no S video connection so you may need some component cables to hook up older external equipment. UVerse is the programming source.

One thing about settings. This has a feature that can automatically adjust the picture to room brightness. The first night the picture suddenly got much darker in the evening, but only in Standard viewing mode. I reset the brightness but it would not hold the new settings once I left the menu. I spoke with Samsung and they had no idea why this was happening. So I read the manual one more time and it turns out this is due to a factory default setting in the Eco portion of the menu. You can either set the auto adjust to never go below a certain brightness level or you can turn it off completely, which is what I did. And that took care of it.

The last time I bought a LCD I continued to look around in case I found something better. That will not be the case this time as I am completely satisfied. Pilot shipping through Amazon was great. They delivered on time, set up the TV and swivel stand, and had everything working in 5-10 minutes.

Excellent TV, one of the best out there This is my second flat panel TV. I had a Samsung plasma before, I loved that TV. However this VIZIO is great. Picture is sharp. I love the remote, this remote really replaced all my other remote. I think Vizio did a great job on the software side of this TV. Internet streaming features are great. But I think more video capable widgets needed to be added to the Internet app selections, specially you tube should be the first in the list. On screen TV picture control selection could be better, bottom of the TV design is bulky, personally I like piano finish all the way around. Overall this is an excellent TV for the price and features and for sure for the picture quality.You will be blown away. VIZIO used to be a moderate quality TV maker, at least on my mind before, but with this purchase I changed my mind, they are as supreme as Sony or Samsung.

Amazing LED TV I absolutely love this TV! Since there was only one other review of this TV when I bought it, I was hesitant to buy it, but friends who have other Vizio TV’s swear by them. I really like the internet apps, but my only wish I could surf the web too. I love that I can connect to Netflix and stream movies. Also like the Facebook app. The picture quality is superb! Great little Viore LCD19VH65 TV!

I was a little wary ordering this TV since it had no reviews, but for the price and the features I decided to go for it. It arrived today, and took only minutes to set up. Be aware, the remote is snuggled in a nook carved out in the outside edge of one of the styrofoam packing pieces. I’m extremely impressed with this set! The picture quality, sharpness and color were all perfect using the default settings. The built-in DVD player takes minimal effort to employ. In other words, it works great! The set has four viewing modes: normal, 16:9, zoom and cinema. I haven’t fooled around yet with the USB, S-video and other options, so I can’t speak to that. All-in-all, a great little set, easy to use with a sharp, beautiful picture.

This purchase was just so very simple we couldn’t believe it. We are sold on shopping this new way for us. We absolutely love our TV. The men came in, took it out of the box, set it up and pluged it in to see if it worked and we were set to go. So simple. Also we couldn’t believe the price. We did shop around to see what we wanted. Amazon can’t be beat.

My family and I just love this Samsung (UN556000,UN55ฺB6000) TV, particularly for watching sports. We looked at a lot of LCD and Plasmas but saw none that gave us the sense of depth this one does. It is like 3D. Moreover, our family room is also a sun room during the day but the picture is just as strong in the day time as it is when the room is dark. The viewing angle is comparatively wide. We see no appreciable drop off when it is viewed at an angle. It is large enough that my wife can view it from the adjacent kitchen with ease.

Learning how to use its features and to set it up is another matter and that is the one gripe I have with the TV. Samsung only provides a four page manual which tells the owner nothing. Instead it includes a flash drive which contains a manual for its use but it took me over three weeks to realize what the flash drive was for. The manual does not show the available ports or how things are to be connected to the TV. I finally figured it out by trial and error and got the flash drive connected. Finding out how to use it however, was again a lot of trial and error. Once I was able to read the pages, it was hard to read, mostly grey on black (I hate black-you can’t see where anything is on black). Figuring how to page the manual on the TV isn’t easy. Samsung provides numerous steps to take but the user has to leave the Manual screen to go through the steps and unless the user writes out all the steps, it is a tiresome process to follow the steps.

So I tried using the flash drive on my computer. Well the manual is in a strange format so it will not open normally. Windows searched for a driver that would allow viewing the manual and found one which I downloaded and installed The one I found that worked was from IrFanView but one must also download all the plugins before it will work. However, when I opened the Manual, it was unprintable except with a screen capture utility.

That was more trouble than it was worth and it then dawned on me to go to the Samsung Support Center and see if there was a Manual that could be downloaded. Voila, the Manual was available in both PDF and Word formats but because the Manual is in three languages, it is 273 pages long. Just print the first 75 pages.

What I found is that with no difficulty I could run picture shows directly from either my camera or from a card reader. They come out beautifully. If I tried to print pictures that big, they would be grainy as all get out. But the pictures show in full size on the big screen in terrific detail and color and they have depth.

But I wish the USB ports were either on the side or the front where they are easily accessible. I intend to wall mount the screen but if I do I won’t be able to get to the connections which are on the back. And even then it is difficult to insert USB cords because the recess is so narrow.

We love this TV however, because of the lack of a printed manual and the location of the USB ports, I can only give it 4 stars.

Samsung 8000 LED LCD TV Amazing This TV is replacing a Sony 50″ rear screen projection LCD HDTV that still has a great picture. However, the Sony uses a $200 projector bulb to display the tiny LCD enlarged through lenses up to the 50″ screen, and that generates a LOT of heat (and only lasts a couple of years). Additionally, the Sony TV only displays up to a 720p image, which is fine, but pales in comparison to this new Samsung model. The LED-side backlit LCD Samsung TV remains cool indefinitely as it’s viewed, which is a major issue if you don’t use your TV to heat your living room.

The first time I saw this new Samsung in a local Best Buy showroom I was immediately transfixed. The image was stunning, razor sharp, bright, and when I touched the top rear of the case, absolutely room temperature. Because the screen case is only about 1 1/4″ thick the unit seems flimsy sitting vertically on its crystal plastic cylinder atop a base, but that’s a minor issue to me. Many people will remove the base and hang it on the wall. I have a TV nook, so this unit sits on its base out of the way of anyone possibly bumping into it.

This TV has the best image of any TV I’ve EVER viewed. I’m not a TV snob, just a daily viewer, but I’ve owned a lot of high quality TVs over the years, and this one stands out. Once I plugged my Dish PVR and Sony PS3 Slim in and looked at the picture in my living room environment, I was convinced I’d made a good decision (and I moved the Sony to another room).

It’s only been a couple of months since my spouse began pushing me to upgrade to 1080, but I thought my DVDs looked great on the Sony TV and didn’t feel the urgency. Now, viewing those same DVDs on my PS3 Slim/Samsung 8000, they look grainy, and definitely remind me of my transitions from Beta to LD to DVD way back when. When I popped in a new Blu-ray movie I was convinced. I’m not sure I’ll ever enjoy my old DVDs the same way again.

The TV worked perfectly out of the box. I plugged it into a gigabit switch to my broadband connection and upgraded its firmware in a few minutes. A couple of days later my Blu-ray Spears & Munsil HD Benchmark disk arrived and I was hard pressed to change ANY settings. In fact, most of the test screens were puzzling to me, since they looked fine. The Spears & Munsil disk shows you a sample of a good image and a bad image for each test screen, and almost all of the test screens on the Samsung looked exactly like the benchmark images. There was one test image that appeared off (screen was so bright the test boxes were nearly invisible), but even with the brightness turned completely down the image didn’t change, so I left it at the setup default. Bottom line, the TV was calibrated nearly perfectly already out of the box. The over saturated, super bright settings you view in the showroom are what Samsung calls Dynamic. I selected a different setting for my Dish satellite and Blu-ray viewing modes that’s fine for home viewing. Of course, Samsung allows you to customize to your heart’s content if the simple options don’t work for you. This unit also boasts a 240Hz fast image smoothing functionality, which basically takes your standard 60Hz (or 24Hz for DVDs) signal and interpolates (creates) additional images to display something on your screen more frequently so you don’t notice the jumps as fast images move across the screen. I can’t say that I’ve noticed this in daily use. But perhaps sports fans will appreciate it, or it’ll become more obvious in action movies.

You can have a separate setup for each input, so I configured my Dish satellite images to bright natural tones, and my Blu-ray settings to a movie configuration (where many images are darker than commercial television). I bypass the TV for audio, using the TV as a monitor only, which is just as well. While there are four HDMI inputs, the optical out ONLY PASSES THROUGH A STEREO SIGNAL to your AV receiver/amplifier. That means NO DTS/5.1/7.1 audio if you pass all your components through your TV. So, I plug my satellite and Blu-ray video inputs directly into my TV’s HDMI ports, and their optical audio connections directly into my AV receiver driving my 5.1 system. I configure my Harmony remote to turn on my TV, set the video port, and set my AV receiver to my satellite audio in when watching Dish, and my Sony PS3 Slim when I’m watching a movie.

I’ve been researching new HDTVs for a couple of months now, and this unit is currently the most popular (including the less expensive 7000 and 6000 series units, and the just released 8500 rear-LED backlight unit) and best rated. A couple of comments I’ve heard and read about with this TV concerned its side-LED backlight scheme, and how that prevents the TV from darkening just a portion of the screen (vice LEDs all across the back of the screen, individually controlled). I can attest that this unit has phenomenal blacks (not dark grays, as my Sony TV has). I’m sure the 8500′s rear-LED scheme will provide more discriminating dark areas on the screen, but for the moment that’s not worth the extra thousand dollars to me. The blacks and dark areas on the 8000 look great. I did notice that the corners of the screen appear slightly darker where the backlights can’t run into the corner, but only on the showroom models that were on all day long. I haven’t yet observed dark corners on a white screen on my home unit. I’ve also heard that some people have experienced hardware failures after a week of home viewing, typically where the screen goes all white, which requires a repair. Best Buy told me if that happens and they can’t repair it in two weeks, they’ll replace the unit (they also offer a 4-year warranty for another $400). I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I didn’t get a defective unit, but so far so good. The TV looks so great, I was willing to take the chance. Anyway, if it works for a month, it’ll probably work forever, such is the history of electronics. Just a heads up, Samsung Customer Service is getting a LOT of complaints on the Internet for unresponsiveness to repairs. But again, the TV is so good, I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. As an aside, Samsung extended their warranty to 15 months parts/labor when I registered it online, so perhaps they have noticed the hardware issues/complaints.

While this TV is listed currently at $3,899 retail, its everyday price almost anywhere is ~$3,009. Sales and promotions can save you more. When Fry’s Electronics offered it at $2,699 last week, we immediately went to our local Best Buy (which price matches and offers free delivery, trash take-away, and old TV take-away, if you want) and purchased it, with a table and a PS3 Slim.

So far, I’m completely satisfied. This is a great HDTV and I look forward to watching it each evening. Oh, and I’m definitely going to start buying more Blu-ray DVDs.

Great LCD TV

I’ve had this 32 inch Sony kdl-325000 flat screen for about 4 months. I bought it for the bedroom. The sound is really good. Once you adjust all the settings it has a great picture. In the one review the person said
the picture on this Sony was the worst. When I looked at the screen at bestbuy the picture was bad compared to another LCD it was next to. I then opened the settings menu and adjusted the settings then the picture looked great. Just as good as the other LCD. So when in a store don’t always judge the picture by what they have the settings at. Just get into the menu settings and change them. What I really like about this set is HD looks great and SD also looks really good.

Great TV for PC monitor and television viewing

We have had this for about 2 weeks and are very happy with it. It was very easy to set up. Our cable package only has broadcast stations but with this we seem to be able to get the digital versions of a whole lot of basic cable channels. Unfortunately, there’s still nothing on them except reality shows and procedurals reruns, so it just confirmed for us the uselessness of cable TV.

I hooked up my Mac Mini with a DVI to HDMI cable and got a Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse for it. It works very well as a PC monitor and we are able to watch Netflix Watch Instantly movies, YouTube videos and TV shows from Hulu or the networks’ sites. We are using Boxee.tv as an interface and that works well. Next up, get an eyeTV so we can use the thing as a DVR.

This is working out exactly as I had hoped and I strongly recommend this TV. We checked out the different brands at comparable price points ($400-$500) and only this one and the Samsung really floated our boat. The picture is almost too clear. I mean, how many acne scars do you really want to see? It has a very usable favorites function which allows you to save your channels. It also interfaces with our Sony Home Theater system with an HDMI cable so we can control the whole system with one remote. Actually I can use the Home Theater remote and my wife can use the TV remote and we can have remote wars.

It has a Picture in Picture function so you can watch TV while you’re working on your PC. One complaint is that in order to go back to full TV you have to go through more key presses than I would have liked. The only other complaint is that it takes a few seconds to tune in each channel.

We now have a very useable media center in our living room which gives us complete access to all the wonderful entertainment out there on the interwebs!
