In most cases Panasonic DMP-BD45 is premature to review any hardware item with such short and limited usage. However, it may be useful to others to know that my initial setup and usage of the DMP-BD45 was flawless. I merely took it out of the box and plug it into a HDMI cable connected to a Sony Bravia 52″ TV. I would have liked to give this product a 5 star rating, but would like to use it for six months just in case something shows up that would warrant something else. I wish all electronic products were this Panasonic DMP-BD45 easy to get up and running.

I never knew what I was missing until I upgraded to this player. All Blu-ray discs load fast and look great. My older non-blu-ray DVDs are upgraded by the software to higher res just by using this system. I was resisting the technology change for a long time, but I am so glad I made the move to upgrade. Which I had done this sooner!!!

The Panasonic DMP-BD45 blu-ray player does not seem as fast as the ads would have us believe, but it is fast enough. Panasonic DMP-BD45 plays blu-ray disks beautifully. It also plays ordinary DVD disks beautifully. I believe the excellence with ordinary DVDs is due to playing them progressive not interlaced, but I am uncertain. The excellence is sufficient where I have canceled asking for blu-ray disks from netflix. Ordinary disks are good enough.

Let me start off by saying that I’m not really buying into the 2010 receiver lineup. I don’t believe that DSX is that great of a feature, I don’t believe that HDMI 1.4 will be that necessary. Therefore, I purchased last year’s 876 for a STEAL. I am upgrading from a 2006 mid-level Denon receiver and really needed HDMI scaling. I appreciate that this receiver will let you choose what setting to apply on each input. Also, for the price, I am glad to have dual HDMI outputs for my front projector and lcd. The Audyssey MultiEQ XT performs well, needing very minor adjustments to fine tune to my personal listening tastes. My main dislike with Onkyo receivers (which has been well documented) is the heat that they output.

If you want power for an price you can’t beat than buy this unit. Onkyo says it rates at 140 watts X 7 channels at 8 ohms. I don’t know about that however. When setting up the unit you have two choices (4 ohms or 6 ohms and higher). I bought this item in December 2009, I belive this unit has been out for two years. If you buy this unit or any Onkyo in this class I would recommend an av component cooler, becasuse this unit runs hot. Just another quick note the setup menu is pretty cool too.

I purchased this item from Amazon.com and it has met my expectations. Some reviewers said music was okay, but I found that it produced very good sounds in my family room. DVD’s as well as regular TV broadcasts produced great sounding backgrounds and crisp voice reproductions. I gave it a “5″ because of this. This unit along with the 7.1 speaker package was a very good upgrade to my home theater setup. I also included the optional Onkyo Ipod dock for Ipod Touch connectivity. We are happy campers, here.

I had been looking around for a good 5.1 system that decodes all the popular signals such as Dolby Digital and DTS sound.
Not Looking to spend a whole lot of cash I needed a simple solution.
I have looked around online and in stores at a variety of options.
When it came down to it I had considered heavily on the sony soundbar mainly because it was the only low price ranged sound system with 3 HDMI inputs. But when I went to bestbuy and listened to it all of my fears came true as far as volume. The soundbar was just too low unless I would have kept it cranked up. Then after weighing the other options of a receiver/speakers (Panasonic receiver)combo the price just was just barely in my range but really didnt want to spend all my cash. Then remebering that my T.V. was an LG (42pg20 42″Plasma) I decided to check out this model. Going out on a limb I was wary because of the one input.
Much to my suprise this unit is awesome for a HTS.
Now for an audiophile the 1.0% THD might discourage you but for around
$220 It something Even I could overlook.(Also have a high end 6.1 sony receiver and yamaha speakers in the house, they have like a .07 THD)
This system gets so loud too. My room is only a 14ft. by 20ft. room but I never even have to turn the volume up over half to crank it while watching a movie.(Actually never had to go over that) The sub kicks.
Also this unit not only upscales DVD’s through the built-in Dvd player(which looks great) it also plays from Ipod with the INCLUDED Ipod Dock (Through OSD or via Ipod control which is cool), From USB, and from the digital optical in. (Will of course also play mp3 music, jpg pictures, and divx movies, and probably a few other formats that I am forgetting).If that wasnt enough LG also included a am/fm receiver in this unit with a loop antennae.
Hooking up the unit was straight forward, the wiring is 18 gauge wire ,About 18ft. long for the rear speakers, about 12ft. for the sub that is color coded, pre stripped at the ends and ready to go.
There is an HDMI Out (I ran to the T.V.) and a couple other outs, composite and standard RCA I think). There was a little delay in the audio from my Digital DVR cable box when I ran the HDMI Out of my cable box into my T.V. and then optical out of my T.V. into the Home theatre. Problem was solved by running the optical from my cable box straight into the home theatre. The Home theatre also automatically picks up whatever kind of sound source it needs to decode and displays it on the front of the unit.
If you have an LG T.V. with simplink then it is really simple to control the System as it syncs right up and even turns on the unit when synced and off when the T.V. turns off.
The remote for the unit also has controls for the T.V., If you dont own an LG TV then no fear as the remote is programmable for your T.V.
The OSD allows you to set aspect ratio and resolution for your T.V as well as test the speakers and turn up each one individually as necessary.
There is No way to set your own E.Q. though but the presets are good even though you probably wont even have to use them. There is also an audio delay fixer (up to 300ms).
Overall I would give it a 4.5 because of all its features but lack of inputs.Recommend to anyone on a budget and wanting a great home theatre with plenty of options.

I live in a college dorm room which is relatively small. I purchased a projector not to long ago and need a sufficient sound systems for it.I wasn’t looking for anything fancy r expensive for that matter. I think it does a great job for the price and now my room has become the designated hangout. My only issues is playing for the usb or sd card. I haven’t quite figured it out. Other than that, it has dvd, radio and ipod player for under a bucks and it sounds amazing! You can’t beat it.

Perfect For What I Need This system is wonderful for a starter set. If you’re a college student, new to surround or looking for something simple for a smaller room, this is a great choice. The biggest plus about this system is that I can hook up my Xbox (RCA hook up or digital). Keep in mind that If you hook it up with RCA you can’t get surround, but the stereo sounds amazing. I was afraid of Coby from all bad reviews on other systems. This one really exceeded every expectations. Very clear sound, great price and a great DVD player make this perfect.
I’m 21 and live in an apartment so the rooms aren’t that big. I have a 100 sq. foot living room. This system is just right. When you finish setting it up (took me about 30 min, running cables and all) you need to put in a DVD like Lord of the Rings to test out the sound. If you leave everything at the default you’ll notice that there’s almost no bass and the center speaker is WAY over powering. Play around with your setting for a while, you CAN get bass out of it, just look through the menus.

This is the best surround system that I have ever had. I love the bass and the clarity in the highs. The only negative I could think of would be that I wish the mids were just a little stonger. But overall, I don’t think you can find a better home theatre system for less money.

Just received mine in the mail today. Note* The shipping box it comes in is pretty huge. Set up was really easy, just had to unplug all the connections from my TV into the A/V receiver/subwoofer. All those connections are now output to my TV through one simple HDMI cable, really nice. It’s a big plus being able to toggle through all the inputs through the A/V receiver remote rather than my samsung hdtv. The TV just lags too much when I try to switch between inputs i.e. going from tv to xbox 360 and having to toggle through everything in between. With the sony remote, I just have to press the button for whichever input I want and it’s automatically up, video and sound, without having to toggle through every one.

Sound is great. I can easily tell the difference between this and my Samsung TV speakers. Highs are higher, lows are lower, overall range and depth of sound is expanded. Plus the sound fills up the room without being too loud. So far I watched Black Hawk Down and played Forza Motorsport 2 with this system. The movie and game are known for their great sound and they sound a lot better with this system. I was able to notice sounds I couldn’t hear with my TV speakers.

With Sony’s reputation for dependability and all the HD inputs this thing has, I know I’ll be able to keep this investment for a long time.

For what you pay, and if you want a simple system and very easy to set up, you can go wrong with this …..movies sound amazing, very easy set up with HDMI cables, and going back and forth between DVD player and satellite was just a push of a button.

The Best Home Theater in a Box out there Great product. Would recommend. Nice design. Great sound!! Internet features work great. Had to use a Netgear powerline ethernet connection as the Samsung adapter I purchased wouldn’t connect to my Apple Airport/ Time Capsule. I have friends that have Bose and other $2000 to $3000 systems and they all agree with one thing when they hear my system… that they overpaid and it was NOT worth it. The sound is excellent, along with the Blu-ray… but most of all the up-converting of regular DVD’s is excellent. Samsung did a great job. I am not into the other features such as ipod and the internet, so I am not rating those features. I bought this to listen to and to watch movies with my Samsung b650 plasma TV, not to play on the internet. Well done Samsung!!! And the people that complain about the wireless connection to Netflix or Pandora…, please keep in mind… wireless is never perfect and never will be perfect. Hardwire it and it will always be perfect. The Sony Bravia was really easy to set up and, for the price, has really great sound. I enjoy all the features and it makes my gaming and movie watching incredible.

I installed this home theatre system on Saturday and am pleased with the product. I get my signal through a digital cable box,and connections were simple.

To the guy who said he could not use with his satellite system, he can. Connect video cable (HDMI is preferred) directly from the satellite box to the HDTV. No need for the video signal to go to the Sony theater unit. Then connect an audio cable from the satellite box to the Sony theater unit. Lastly, connect the video output from the Sony theater unit to the video input on the HDTV either with the video cable provided or with a set of component cables. Works great.

You can never go wrong with a Sony product. I have 2 surround sounds, a big screen TV, a camcorder, etc. This product is tremendous for around $250. For a small to medium room, it does everything you need. The sound volume will not “blowout” a big room at maximum, though. That would be my only concern. Make sure you get an HDMI wire which is not included(I got one for $5 on EBAY) and you regular DVD’s look like virtual HDTV. I cannot wait to get a IPOD to dock. Enjoy!

I wanted to upgrade the sound for my 48″ Samsung DLP TV. I paid $325.00 for this system & am absolutely delighted.
If you want chest thumping, crisp bass for explosions you will be disapointed but if you want deep base with very minimal distortion you will be VERY happy. Music sounds great! LOL … I’ve got almost 12 grand invested in speakers alone for my stereo system & obviously the sound is extraordinary but truth is, for just casual listening, this system satisfies me. I bought this for my TV & though I could have spent about $1200.00 for a receiver to use my stereo speakers & another $300.00 or so for a decent center speaker … I didn’t wanna! I just wanted decent sound from the TV but got a bonus in that the Sony provides me with reasonable music sound as well. There is no Blue Ray player, I don’t care!I can add one later but doubt I will.
You can’t upgrade speakers with this as the speakers are rated @ 3amps … SO what?! It sounds just fine.
The features are limited but I find the “night” button, which turns down the bass, really cool.
Set up is not enhanced by the owners manual but if you are willing to read it, LOL, a couple times or four, all the information you need is there. Just not exactly intuitive.
The rear speakers are not truly “Wireless” as they need to be connected to a small Receiver/amplifier which needs to be plugged in too. The configuration of my viewing room works fine for this & there is plenty of speaker wire for these speakers. Mine are about 16 feet apart & could go wider.
Some folks have stated the front Left-right speaker wiring is to short but I’ve got mine at 15 feet. They must have bigger rooms.
Bottom line? There is no way you could get this quality sound for less money & to better it appreciably you are going to have to up the ante by another $1000.00 at least. I’m a happy camper.

I chose this system as an economical surround solution for a second living area. I have been impressed with the quality of the sound and the intelligent user interface design. This system sounds great and is very easy to use. It took barely an hour to setup. The wires have plug in connections that make the parts particularly easy to put together. The wireless rear speakers work wonderfully and remove the need for running wires around the entire room.
