This lens is sort of the purchase for a photographer who is on the lookout for a comparatively cheap, “all purpose” lens. The canon 24-one zero five is a superb general lens. It has an inexpensive zoom and has a continuing f/four aperture. The lens can get just a little mushy within the corners on a full body camera( 5D, 1Ds) however on crop sensor bodies the lens fares much better. The lens has IS which provides me about 3-4 additional stops. The lens is weather sealed and while I’ve not taken my lens out within the rain, The sealing is understood to work well. One downside with this lens is flaring. The lens can easily flare in any respect apertures. From what I have noticed, there doesn’t seem to be a lot variation between copies on my 5D or t2i. I’ve had 2 lens from amazon and one lens from a pal and they are perform in related ways. Overall I recommend this lens to anybody searching for a lightweight L class 5X zoom lens. It goes great with a 5D

I’m not a professional photographer, but take pleasure in it significantly as a hobby. I have one other L sequence lens, which is 70-200mm F/four IS model, amongst a few others non-L lenses. I shoot with a Canon 7D, which continues to be a crop sensor camera. I bought this lens (24-105) in anticipation of a European journey last summer. And I inform you, it’s a great lens. Its focal range will not be good for a crop digicam resembling mine; 17mm would have been good at the decrease end. But still I’m very happy with its IQ and efficiency overall. I plan to buy a polarizer lens filter to enhance its efficiency even more. I believe it will likely be a worthwhile investment.

Cons;
* somewhat heavy, however manageable
* not optimum min focal range for a cropped sensor digital camera – but no such lens is obtainable for cropped sensors but
* not superb for indoors images, resulting from its smaller aperture
* VERY costly – THIS IS THE REASON FOR 4 STARS
But overall, I extremely recommend this lens for any DSLR, especially you probably have a full body digicam akin to 5D. It is going to greatly enhance your picture taking experience.

One very last thing, since I bought this lens, I not often swap to different lenses, besides when lighting is poor (indoors), or when I have to have a wider angle lens.

We had earlier purchased the D3100, but had problems with low light photography and also with video focusing through the Live View feature. Fortunately, amazon.com allowed us an upgrade to D5100 for the price difference of ~$250. It was well worth it. The Nikon D5100 has a far superior screen with much higher resolution for a live view recording. Nikon D5100 18-55mm Kit definitely takes much better low light photos. The photos with the 55-300 zoom lens that we also purchased from amazon.com are superlative. The only minus is that D5100 is not as user friendly as the D3100. D3100 has a Guide Mode that even our kids could use to take good photos and videos; the D5100 does not. But D5100 does offer more creative photo processing features compared to the D3100.

I bought the Nikon D5100 camera as an upgrade to a D60. I took the camera on a cruise with me and it worked great. I bought my D5100 (D5100 18-55mm Kit) just 4 weeks ago and 2000 shots later have to report that this is one of the very best and certainly the very cheapest Nikon (D)SLR’s I ever owned in more than 50 years. Not being as dextrous as I once was I wanted something that gave me pin sharp pics out of the box without having to fuss through lengthy menus for a custom set up. The D5100 18-55mm Kit did not disappoint in any department. With my 5 year old 18-200mm attached the camera at first felt just a little unbalanced but 5 minutes later it felt a lot better to me than it did on my old D200. Results have amazed me especially at the ISO6000 level and above, and just for fun,I put it up against the D200, my neighbors D3 and my son’s D2X – have to say the 5100 blew them all away using an old 50mm f1.4 ai-s in manual focus of course! I cannot fathom the comments from a recent reviewer, who signs off as a pro, and who mentions a Canon Rebel having better IQ than the 5100. No pro I know would use either camera as a day to day working tool, they are just not made for that kind of hard work. Although when you think about it you could buy 6 of the 5100′s for less than the price of a D3s. Now that’s a thought for a pro who wants to go ultra lightweight! But getting back to the image quality issue, I have to report just one thing – There Is No Issue!! It is a super sharp machine with any decent lens you care to put on it. The video output is excellent and on a Samsung 50″ LCD in HDMI mode the picture quality was better than I could ever have hoped for. Crystal clear with outstanding sound quality. OK so it doesn’t have a waterproofed Titanium and Kevlar shell, the buttons seem to be getting smaller on all Nikons,the video controls and logic are problematic but no doubt curable with a firmware upgrade.The liveview switch is not exactly conveniently placed either and I could go on with other picky findings. But overall this Nikon rocks!

Being in Graphic Design, I was in the market for a DSLR, and was reading up on the specs of the D5100 (Nikon D5100). I had only had previous experience with a Canon D60 and proudly owned and used a Nikon FM2 Film Camera for a decent amount of years. (Hence why I went with Nikon again, for the lenses) Since I was looking for a camera for on-the-go shots and night shots, this little baby seemed to come into my life just at the right moment.

Nikon D5100 18-55mm Kit is an unbelievably light weight camera, which makes it nice for lugging it around. The body IS Plastic, so it is definitely not ment for you rough and tumble types. The rotating flip screen is a serious plus, for getting those wierd angled shots you would otherwise need to dig a hole to get. All of the features, such as portrait, landscape, etc like point and shoot cameras are featured, although I just use manual settings to custom taylor to my needs. ISO can get up to 6400, Shutter Speed can get up to 1/4000. The white balance is very nicely programed, pictures come out as if it were my own eyes. (*personal settings apply) Auto focus can be turned on in constance and is pretty responsive when moving the camera around.

Never mind the Video capability. (1080p HD?! COOL!) Even little on-unit touch ups like upping digital lighting, or adding a “Miniature effect” to the photos, it has been quite joyful to even do slight color correcting on the camera in playback.

I have only had this D5100 18-55mm Kit camera for a few days, keep in mind. And I did not buy it from Amazon (even though they have the same great price i paid for it.) This Nikon D5100 camera is a bargain for what you get. I couldn’t be any happier, especially with the price. What can I say- I am already in love.

I purchased this Canon EOS Rebel T3i camera mainly for recording video. Cheap Canon Rebel T3i is quality is amazing, and the on-board mic records great to me as well. For anyone wondering about the new HD digital movie zoom, I created a video demonstrating its quality and the microphone quality as well! Its on youtube. On a side note, I would not recommend purchasing the Patriot LX series 32gb class 10 SDHC card. I ordered one of these from newegg and when I received it, it did not work properly with the camera due to old firmware on the card. Patriot has confirmed this over the phone, as the issue started with the T2i. Apparently they fixed it in there new cards, but old ones are still out there! I did order the Transcend 32gb class 10 and it is currently working fine at the moment.

I Highly recommend getting a wireless remote. I picked up a brand called Shoot, here on amazon and works great for videos as well if you do not have anyone to operate the camera for recording.
