Extended Warranty Inadequate for Kindle DX

I heartily agree with the previous reviewers about the inadequacy of the extended warranty contract for the excellent Kindle DX. I believe that Amazon should find a repair service with fixed prices for the most likely repair needs such as (1) battery replacement (2) wearing out or fracturing of the plastic knob of the 5-way,or failure of its electronic contacts through frequent use (3) memory replacement or eventual upgrade, etc. These things may well occur within the first two or three years and unless a repair service is available there goes $500 down the tube plus access to the Kindle’s data and books.

All that said the Kindle DX is a marvelous item of which I had planned to buy additional copies as gifts for grandchildren, however, I certainly will not do so unless a reasonable repair service is established. I inquired by telepone of Amazon and was told that the only such resource would be the initial year’s warranty and purchase of the inadequate extended warranty.

What can I say. I just got the Kindle 2 and DX along with a 2-year extended warranty.

So far so good. I have not entered the extended warranty time frame just yet, but when I do I bet it will be just great, providing the units break, which I hope they don’t.

I am waiting on a email from myself in the future to tell me how it worked out. Haven’t made first contact yet, but when I hear from my future self, I’ll let you all know.
